Rise and Shine
Alex and Erin Flood’s last Sunday with us will be this Sunday. They have been busy finalizing things as they get ready to move up to Minnesota. (If you haven’t looked at it yet, one of our bulletin boards has more details about this.) Alex will also be preaching for us this Sunday evening. The title of his lesson is “We Are Not Alone.” After the services are over, we’d like as many as can to stay after and meet with us in the Fellowship Hall for a going-away gathering in their honor. Please bring sandwiches and desserts for the occasion. I’m going to really miss them, but I know the Lord will be with them as they begin this important ministry up north. Please remember to give them a hug and wish them Godspeed as they make their move.
Alas! All my pumpkin pie is gone! What a beautiful time of year is Thanksgiving! What a blessing to gather with family, sometimes from far flung places, around the table to share in such a sumptuous meal. Yet, sadly those precious loved ones soon return to their homes and, eventually, even the leftovers are gone (including my pumpkin pie). (I sure hope somebody knows how to take a hint!)
Classics will not meet this Sunday night (December 8) after evening worship. BUT, we will meet on Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 P.M. (We will not be eating.) At that time, we will fill gift bags for the children in Bible Hour that we pass out to each year at the end of Bible Hour. (This is for children up through 3rd grade.). Please bring all you can to help fill the bags.
Care Packages: Secret Sisters is collecting toiletry items- -toothpaste, deodorant, razors, shaving cream etc., and gloves, paid phone cards, socks (men’s & women’s), anything else you can think of that our military can use. If you’d like to help, please leave your items in the office on desk below the hall window. Items need to be brought by December 8 to give enough time to assemble and get in the mail in time for Christmas.
Parents Night Out December 6th 6:00 to 10:00 P.M. Deadline to sign up for December 6’s “Parents’ Night Out” is Wednesday, December 4th . Sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the foyer. Dinner and snacks are supplied. We respectfully ask that you do not bring in outside food. (Other children feel left out if they do not get a McDonald’s.) See Melody Huffman or Brenda Wells if you have any questions.
Christmas Food Boxes: Billy Calloway is taking applications for Christmas Food Boxes from the Food Bank. If you qualify, see Billy for an application the Food Bank requires this year to be filled out. Applications MUST be returned to Billy NO later than December 8. Donations for paying for the food boxes is also accepted. Food boxes are $25.00 this year. Donations of any amount will be accepted. Give donations to Billy. and/or Brenda.
Reminder: Please check the calendar on the west wall in the office when planning events to be sure there is no conflict where the use of the building will be involved.
New Mexico Christian Children’s Home ... in Portales, has asked that we collect Cereals (any kind), and also Apple and Cherry pie fillings. Pick-up date is December 11, so please bring all that you can so we can have a good supply for them.
Calendar Oooops: Ron & Carol will be celebrating 34 years of marriage on January 1, 2014, not 33 as on your January calendar.
Welcome to Chasney Clemons who came Sunday to place membership with Parkway Drive. Chasney and her little daughter, Jezell.
