SUMMER IS UPON US!

Just two weeks ago, I had to cover my tender plants due to a late winter’s freeze. Now, I water them constantly to battle triple-digit temperatures. How quickly the year passes! We’re headed toward Summer!

That means graduation is at hand. Brittany Calloway graduated from NTSU, last weekend. Angela Hall also had a daughter (LaJoya) graduate at the university level. Erin Flood graduated from law school. Now, Brandy Calloway, Ashley Moore and Dolly Bean’s granddaughter, Alexis, who sometimes visits worship, are graduating from High School. We congratulate these families on this accomplishment. Children are a priceless gift from God. May we each have strength to raise them well.

Rise and Shine

Sadly, we’re going to be hearing a lot about Oklahoma over the next few days. I know we’ll all keep that whole region in our prayers. The recent Mid-America devastation has brought back some sad memories of my experiences in Florida during Hurricane Charley. When it’s happening, it seems like everything is moving in slow motion. Feelings of terror can overwhelm you. You wonder when it’s going to all be over because it seems like it lasts for an eternity. But, when it finally does end, and you find out how long it actually lasted, it seems like a nightmare. You ask yourself, “Did that really just happen?” But, believe me, unlike a bad dream that vanishes with the morning light, the effects of natural disasters like this one are permanent. Not only are lives lost and changed forever, but the impact on those that remain is a lasting one. For those who are at a distance, sadness and sympathy will overwhelm us--until the next big news item distracts us. But, for those experiencing this up close and personal, it will take a long time before the reality becomes a memory. Let’s remember to pray for them as they deal with this awful reality.

Our Sincere Sympathy

To Milton and Delma Lee and family in the death of Milton’s aunt, Ella Mae Waters, who died May 18 in Tyler, TX. The family will be traveling to the funeral on Wed. and requests prayers for a safe trip. To Gene and Nell Dycus in the death of Gene’s sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Dycus, who died Monday, May 20. Services will be at the First Baptist Church in Lorenzo--time is pending at this writing. Also, to the Johnson family in Amarillo, whose son-in-law was killed in a motorcycle accident the night of May 18. Also, we related to you Sunday that the 92-year old grandfather in Austin was very ill and not expected to live. The grandfather passed away later Sunday afternoon, May 19. (Greer Johnson is Brooke Edwards’ (Sandra Medley’s granddaughter) boyfriend and this is his brother-in-law and grandfather.)
